This First Grade Life Science- Got Sticky Feet? lesson is a fun research and design STEAM challenge.  Learn the science behind how gecko feet work, use technology to research and design pictures of your gecko, engineer a product which behaves like a gecko foot, and use math measurements while drawing your product blueprint.

Step 2: Complete the Getting to Know Geckos worksheet and begin poster presentation research

The lesson begins with going over vocabulary related to the science of behind gecko feet and gecko adaptations.  The lesson then moves on to use technology, such as the Internet, to complete research about geckos.  This research will be presented though a poster presentation.

The research should also include a drawing of a gecko.

Step 3: Design a product that works using the science behind gecko feet, then draw a blueprint of your product on your poster

Jack designed a glove that can stick to walls and ceilings using the same science as a gecko foot.

Step 4: Use materials to make a model of your product

Jack used felt to trace his hand to make a glove.

Then, he put the front and back of the glove together using tape.

To make the glove model show that it sticks to walls, Jack glued duct tape to his glove.

Step 5: Complete assessment from the First Grade Life Science- Got Sticky Feet? Lesson

Wrap up the lesson.  Be sure the students have met all the objectives and complete the assessment.
