Tinker Crate 12-Month Subscription Introduction

Jack is now 7 and is old enough to do the Tinker Crate boxes as long as I help him with it.  I was so excited about this, so I decided to sign him up for an entire year!  Lila enjoyed the boxes as well, even though she is only four.

What is included in each of the Tinker Crate Subscription Boxes?

Our boxes always include:

-Detailed instruction guide
-ALL the materials needed to complete the project
-A TinkerZine explaining more about the topic
-Suggestions for further experiments

Sample Month 1- LED Color-Mixing Crystal Box

We are always excited when Tinker Crate boxes arrive at our doorstep!

This month’s box included all the materials and instructions needed to wire a color mixing LED light.

We started by putting together the box for the light.

Then we followed the instructions for completing the wiring.  Although this looks a little complicated for little ones, this was very easy because of the very detailed instructions.

Success! Now we get to play and mix the three primary colors.

Maybe we have some future electricians on our hands!

Sample Month 2- Paper Circuits Box

The next month we are highlighting is the Paper Circuits box.

This box came with all the instructions needed to wire tiny paper lanterns.  It also had some extra things to add if we wanted to, such as city silhouettes and this robot.

We started by adding this copper tape to the plastic base.

Let’s test out the LED…yay, it works!

These discs go under the paper lanterns to hold them in place.

These projects are an excellent way to work on fine motor skills.

Here is the first lantern we built, isn’t it beautiful!

I can’t wait to take these outside in the summer to display them around our patio!

This last pyramid lantern was super cool!

Sample Month 3- Walking Robot

The final month we are highlighting here brought us the walking robot box.  This one happened to be Jack’s favorite, so maybe instead of an electrician, he can get involved with engineering.  Whatever he decides, at least these boxes are giving him, and Lila, exposure to things that I would never be able to dream up on my own!

As usual, the box was complete with all the materials and instructions needed to make the robot, plus a cool TinkerZine to read.

Here we are building the body of the robot.

Now to put the arms and legs on…

Here he is…

and here is a video of him walking!
