Dinosaur DNA kit Introduction

We have really enjoyed the science kits from the 4M company and this Dinosaur DNA kit was no exception! This kit had an added bonus of an augmented reality (AR) activity to do after the dinosaur dig.

The kit came with very detailed instructions, as well as infomation about DNA and paleontology.

What does the Dinosaur DNA kit come with?

This Dinosaur DNA kit included:

-a clay block to dig for dinosaur bones
-tools for completing the dig
-augmented reality (AR) posters
-DNA stickers

AR was new to us so it was nice that the 4M company gave us very detailed instructions on how to complete this part of the kit. The Dino Codes poster was large and had to be placed on the floor. The FREE Dino Codes app had to be downloaded onto a smart device in order to complete this part of the project.

There were two AR posters which you can see below, each containing their own AR scene to play while using the app.

Having fun digging for Dinosaur DNA

Whew! This clay was touh! I always remind the kids when they have trouble with these dig projects, that being a paleontologist is difficult and you must be patient and careful with the fragile materials.

We had a really hard time digging through this clay so we finally wet it and it was easier to dig through. I figured this could represent paleontolgists spraying a hose on their dig site or rain falling on it, lol!

What did we find?

Here are the finds from our dig! There was a whole T-Rex skeleton and a tube which contained missing DNA stickers which we added to the AR posters.

We were able to easily put together the dinosaur bones using this handy key. As another bonus, the skeleton glows in the dark!

The Dinosaur DNA augmented reality app

Here is the exciting AR app which must be downloaded to complete this part of the project. The app is FREE and pretty easy to use, especially if you have some experience with AR already.
