Magnet Science Kit Introduction
For a science enrichment project, we completed two magnet science kits. The first magnet science kit was from the company 4M and is pictured below. It is recommended for ages 8 and up.
The next one was from Thames and Kosmos Little Labs and it is pictured below. This one is recommended for ages 6 and up.

What does each Magnet Science Kit come with?
The 4m Magnet Science kit included:
-10 experiments
-a super magnet set with plastic casings which could be manipulated in different ways to make a variety of objects, such as a car or yacht
The Little Labs Magnet Science Kit included:
-12 experiments and games
-a small magnet wand used in the many experiments and games
The 4M Magnet Kit!
Here are our favorite experiments and creations from the 4M Magnet Science kit!
Jack was able to easily follow the instructions to make a magnet powered car.
The 4M Magnet Science kit could easily be changed to make a fishing magnet game.
Here is a cool creation Jack made using the magnet science kit to hold up the little “nutty” man!
Having fun playing with the Little Labs Magnet Kit…
The Little Labs Magnet Science kit contained more magnet games geared toward younger children. There was still a lot of science behind how the games worked but this kit was more fun and artistic than the 4M kit. Here we are using a box filled with magnetic shavings and the magnet wand to makes creations and play games!
This kit contained small items that we tested to see if they were attraced to the magnet or not. This is a great way to introduce young children to the power of magnets! We were also able to play around with this magnetic ball the kit came with to see how close it had to be to the magnet wand to be picked up.
Finally, we played a game to see how many paper clips the magnet wand could hold.
Conclusion
We had a lot of fun with both of the kits. I definitely agree with the age recommendations of both. If you want more “pure science” go with the 4M Magnet Science kit. If you are looking to introduce a younger child to magnets or they just enjoy playing with magnetic toys, go with the Little Labs Magnet Science.
