Tin Can Robot Kit Introduction
We picked up this Tin Can Robot kit a few weeks ago and I was a little concerned that it would be too complicated not only for Jack, who is 5, but for myself as well! Luckily, I could’t have been happier with this purchase. We had such a great time putting this together. There were definitely parts that we had to go back and troubleshoot, but with the help of an adult, this is a project that a five year old can definitely conquer.

Having fun putting together our Tin Can Robot…
The directions for this Tin Can Robot were not great. A few of the parts came already put together but the directions were written as if you were starting from scratch. Also, some of the screws seemed a little too small to do the job they needed to do. Otherwise, this kit was pretty easy to put together and it was great for Jack to practice using tools and work on fine motor skills.
Here we are setting up the battery and connecting it to the motor.
This video shows us testing out if the motor works:
These are the rings the tin can will sit in on the left. On the right, we are putting the robots arms on.
Now the robot is really starting to come to “life” with these springy googly eyes.
Meet Jack and his new friend Radey the Robot!
Here he is! Radey the Tin Can Robot is walking around on his own. His arms kept falling off, so we wound up gluing them on with crazy glue.
