Who Am I?

HELLO, MY NAME IS…

Jennifer Blaustein and I am a mother of two awesome kids, Jack and Lila. Jack was born in 2010 and Lila 2014.

MY EDUCATION

I attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ where I met my wonderful husband Matt. I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cook College in Natural Resource Management in 2002. This is a biological science degree with a focus on outdoor ecological field studies. I minored in Science Education and I hold NJ teaching certificates with advanced standing in Elementary Education and Biological Education, grades K-12.  I also hold a NJ Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement.  In the summer of 2010, I received my Masters degree in Life and Chemical Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park’s online program for science teachers.

MY WORK EXPERIENCE

As an assistant naturalist at the Monmouth County Park System, I learned to use my teaching skills to instill a sense of wonder in the young children who were visiting the parks to learn about natural science. I led nature camps and programs related to the local environment of Monmouth County, NJ. I began teaching in NJ public schools in March of 2002 as a high school biological science teacher, however, I recently left my position to be home with my children.  At the high school level, I taught Marine Science, Biological Science, and Environmental Science, as well as Biology and Environmental Basics for students with special needs.

WHY I STARTED CURIOUS LITTLE CLASSROOM

While staying home with my kids, I used my teaching background to do supplemental lessons with my son Jack and daughter Lila. In order to be sure these lessons were meaningful and aligned with the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, I decided to create my own STEAM+ELA curriculum filled with fun, exciting lessons. I hope you enjoy your journey here learning and exploring with us! Please visit my Teachers Pay Teachers or Teacher’s Notebook stores to view over 80 STEAM+ELA lessons!
